Paper type and old paste decide the job, so we read the wall first
Wallpaper isn't one material. Some strips off in a clean sheet, some leaves a paper backing stuck behind, and vinyl papers peel their top layer and leave the rest on the wall. We work out which one you have before any water touches it, because the wrong method is how drywall gets torn.
The paste matters just as much. In older West Palm Beach homes and offices, adhesive that has sat through years of Florida humidity can bond hard to the wall, and the paper face of the drywall comes away with it if someone rushes. A few minutes testing a corner saves a lot of patching later.
