Cabinet Painting and Refinishing

Kitchen and bathroom cabinets cleaned, degreased, sanded and primed, then sprayed for a smooth factory-style finish.

Solid wood or laminate: the surface decides whether you paint or refinish

Cabinet Painting and Refinishing in West Palm Beach for outdated cabinet colors, worn finishes, and kitchens needing a fresh look is really two different jobs, and the cabinets themselves decide which one you need. Refinishing suits solid wood you still want to look like wood. The old finish is cleaned and sanded back and a new stain or clear coat goes on, so the grain stays part of the kitchen.

Painting suits laminate, cabinets that were painted before, and doors with a style you've simply stopped liking. Those surfaces won't take stain, so they're cleaned, sanded and sealed with an adhesion primer before any colour goes on. Skipping that primer is why store-bought cabinet paint chips at the door edges within a year or two.

Kitchens in Palm Beach County are hard on a finish. Cooking grease settles on the doors above the stove, steam rises on humid days, and hands wear the same few spots by the sink every day. A cabinet that looks tired is often just a finish that has given up in those places.

Degrease, sand, prime, spray: the order behind a factory-style finish

Every cabinet job starts with a thorough clean. Kitchen cabinets carry a film of grease and cooking residue you can't always see, and paint will not stick to it. After cleaning and degreasing, the surfaces are sanded so the primer can bond, dents and worn corners are filled, and the whole run is primed.

The finish is sprayed rather than brushed. Spraying lays the coating down evenly with no brush marks and no roller stipple, which is what gives a painted cabinet that smooth, factory-style look instead of a hand-painted one. Doors, drawer fronts and frames all get the same treatment, so the kitchen or bathroom reads as one consistent finish.

Bathroom vanities near the coast need the same discipline. Salt in the air and a shower running every morning punish thin, poorly bonded paint, so the cleaning and priming matter as much there as they do in a kitchen. Our interior painting page covers the walls, trim and ceilings around the cabinets if you'd like them done in the same visit.

Doors off, finish cured, hardware back where it belongs

Doors and drawer fronts come off for the work, with hardware removed and kept together, so the edges and backs are finished properly instead of painted around. That also makes it far easier to keep the work clean in a house you're still living in.

A new cabinet finish feels dry before it is hard. Give it time to cure before the doors go back on and before you load shelves or slam drawers. Once the hardware is reattached, treat the first few weeks gently: wipe with a soft damp cloth rather than abrasive cleaners, and you'll keep the finish looking new.

Schedule a cabinet consultation to determine whether your cabinets need painting or refinishing and to review finish options and colours. We'll look at the material, the wear, and your light, then put the scope in writing for homes in West Palm Beach, Wellington, Jupiter and the surrounding towns.
